Seven Things to do When it Snows.
This past weekend, snow fell and covered our yard in about two feet of snow. Even while it was still storming, my brothers and I bundled up, and tromped outside. Here are seven different things to do in the snow.
1. Snowman (duh)
*knock knock knockity knock* “Do you want to build a-”
Even if you aren’t a fan of Frozen, snowmen are still fun to build. I’ve tried doing the method where you make three giant boulders of snow and then stack them, but it’s never worked. I usually just pile up snow and then shape it.
Decorating your snowman is the best part. You can make the typical carrot nose, coal eyes and buttons, and sticks for arms. If you don’t have coal or carrots or sticks around, there are many different options. You can use pine cones to substitute for most anything. Instead of sticks, use shovels or pool noodles. Rather than coal, use rocks. The possibilities are endless!
2. Snowfort
This one’s pretty common too, but it’s really fun. You can pile up snow and shape it or make giant snow boulders and line them up. You can also use rectangular tupperware containers to make snow bricks and make an igloo. For an added touch of winter, stick icicles into the walls.
3. Snowpile
Where I live, there are giant snow piles everywhere. One fun thing to do with these giant snow piles is dig a tunnel. You could also play king of the mountain- er, snow pile. Another thing you could do is make a miniature sledding hill.
4. Sledding!
I believe every kid in the world should go sledding at least once. I’m not talking about snow pile sledding, I’m talking about sledding down a hill covered in snow. Snow pans are pretty fun to sled down with. You spin around and feel every bump in the snow. The best sled I’ve ever tried is made out of foam. These are light and don’t break as easily as the plastic ones. (we’ve had ours for about six years) If you don’t have a sled, not to worry! Roll down the hill! (It’s very fun!)
5. Snow ball fight!
This is very fun, and it’s great with a large group of people. It’s also very changeable. Don’t want to get hit? Set up a target and see who can hit that. Not many people? Do a snowball fight dual. The possibilities are endless.
6. Skiing and Snowboarding
I ski. I’ve tried snowboarding, and it ended miserably. (I’m going to try again this winter) These are super fun to do. After you get the basics down, nothing stands in your way! (Except for the long ski lift lines)
7. Brrr
When it gets cold, like around -10 or -20 degrees (Fahrenheit), go outside! Of course, bundle up first. Take some water with you and pour it on random things. The water freezes really fast, and it’s really cool to watch. You could even throw some water in the air and watch it freeze in midair, although it has to be really cold for that. Also, make sure you aren’t icing up anything like stairs, sidewalks, or driveways.
I hope next time it snows, you won’t stay inside. Bundle up in snow pants, mittens, a winter coat, boots, scarf and a hat and hit the outdoors. Have fun!
