Shards of Sky Blog Tour
Today, I’m super excited to be a part of the launch for E.C. Colton’s new book Shards of Sky! For those of you who love mountains, music, amazing sibling relationships, adventure, and overcoming hard challenges, and anything between that, this book is for you.
Will hope prove itself worth fighting for?
Nestled within the mountains of Colorado, life is anything but perfect for two children and their negligent aunt. Yet it becomes even more of a disaster when a mysterious accident leaves Aryon mute and Jenn terrified for their futures. Battling her own sorrow, bitterness, and distant memories, Jenn journeys through the mountains of Colorado in search of their father, who may only be as real as a wisp of mist. The biggest things standing in her way are the miles of seemingly endless forest, her shattered memories, and a mysterious woman trailing her.
As she journeys on, Jenn is forced to confront her past. Has time changed her memories? What will it take to be strong and unhindered by the darkness around her? And does this woman hold the key to her past—her real past?
But no matter where Jenn goes, a shard of sky shines bright overhead as a distant reminder of the hope she’s fighting to hold onto—and the person she could become.
Heart-wrenching and emotionally moving, this story delivers a powerful message of courage and the wonder of hope.
(I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review)
This book combined some of my favorite things. Violin, a beautiful brother-sister relationship, the outdoors, it had it all.
The things Jenn battled through are so tough and hard (Em, why do you have to do these things to Jenn?!) But in the end, she had an amazing arc and grew so much. There were times when she seemed a little nonsensical- if I had been in her place, I would have done things differently. Her dream to dance and for Aryon to become a famous violin player was really bittersweet. Deep down, I knew that life wouldn’t treat them so nicely, but I still wanted her to achieve that. As much as I loved Jenn’s character, she was a little hard to relate to. I connected a lot with her fierce love for Aryon. But, apart from a little bit of dancing, she didn’t have interests or hobbies that could have made her more realistic. The character growth, though? I loved it!
Aryon was so, so intriguing. (And his love for cats was absolutely ADORABLE) I wanted more of Aryon, this sweet little brother. I want to know what specific event made him so withdrawn, and I think it would be so cool if we got to see things from his perspective.
The other characters were really interesting, too. Aunt Vera was a little scary, not gonna lie. And I really liked the twist at the end with Marisa.
The plot of this book was very adventurous, and it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. But it did seem to repeat a cycle of running and hiding in the forest. It took a bit for things to get interesting, for me to really get involved in the story. But after I got past the beginning, I really couldn’t put this book down.
I loved the ending. After all of the hard things Jenn went through, hope was able to shine through. The violin was able to sing again. And the gorgeous prose in this book made the ending so poetic and beautiful. So, if you enjoy stories with loving siblings, pretty prose, violins, adventures in the woods, and so much more, I highly recommend checking out Shards of Sky.
