The Last Post of the Year (2020 Recap)
Hello!
This is officially the last post I will make in the year of 2020.
That feels weird to say. Wasn’t it just turning from 2019 to 2020?!
Even though 2020 has been… a year… I still like to recap things. End of the day, end of the month, and end of the year recaps are some of my favorite things to do. So, onto the recap!
Reading:
2020 was the year where my passion for reading became reignited. In 2019, I read barely ten books, but this year I read closer to seventy. I took a step outside of my comfort zone and read a lot of popular YA books. Some didn’t live up to the hype, and others didn’t seem to get enough hype!
I’m also very proud to say that I read some classics this year too. Jane Eyre, A Tale of Two Cities, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and The Secret Garden. Along with that, I reread a lot of my favorite books from when I was younger. I’m super happy that a lot of them stood the test of time, such as Walk Two Moons, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, and Paint the Wind.
Writing:
I worked on some fun writing projects this year, participating in Camp Nano and branching out to the contemporary genre. I’m currently working on the second draft of my Camp project, which has been going really well! Although through all of 2020 I only had one writing project with a title. *shrinks back*
My favorite blog posts to write this year were:
Books Vs Movies: Two Different Ways to Tell a Story
The Importance of Stakes and Wants (ft. The Scorpio Races)
Life:
This year was a year of growth, learning, and just… getting older. Maturing. I began this year thinking that 2020 would be a lot easier than 2019, and less busy and chaotic. In some ways, it was, but in many ways, 2020 was crazy and insane.
At the beginning of January, I started stretching every day to try to get the splits. It was a challenge that friends from my gymnastics class were doing, so I decided to join in (plus flexibility helps a lot in gymnastics) I stretched *mostly* every day. I started off as a very inflexible tall human bean, and ended as a slightly more flexible bean. Needless to say, I’m going to keep on stretching and hopefully become more flexible.
While 2019 was a year of trying new things, and really just a scattered-naive ambitiousness, this year I really took a step back and tried to learn how to do things the proper way. I tried to focus more on quality than just “getting it done” This was mainly for sewing. In the spring I thought I had enough experience to sew without a pattern. To just “eyeball it.”
It didn’t work at all.
And that resulted in some very failed projects, wasted time and fabric, and lots of frustration. Thanks to those projects, I’ve learned that I am very much a beginner sewer, and that patterns are not tools of torture. So, with that in mind, I’ve found some patterns and fabric that are going to make a very fun project this upcoming year…
But overall, 2020 was a good year. I’m excited but at the same time a little scared to see what 2021 has in store for us. What were some of your favorite things from 2020? Thank you so much for sticking with me for 2020, and hopefully 2021 won’t be too treacherous. Until next year!

Hi! I’m Hannah, a crazy pen-wielding, jack-of-all-trades writer. I write contemporary stories with a magical (or vintage!) twist, usually featuring big families, delicious food, and a few tear jerking scenes. When I’m not writing, you could find me camping, sewing, hiking, cycling, skiing, playing violin or piano, reading, and many other “-ing” words.
