1 Year (ish) of Blogging (+ Some Announcements)
Hello!
When people ask me how long I’ve been blogging, my answer is always a little confusing. Well, I wrote on my brother’s tiny house blog when I was ten, and then a few years later, I started my own blog, promptly abandoned it, and then posted off and on with sudden bursts of inspiration. That cycle repeated until a few months ago, and since then I’ve been blogging consistently.
Somehow, those “few months” turned into about a year!? (Okay, really, I don’t know the exact date I started, but it was sometime in August) At around this time last year, I started blogging again, telling myself I will post every week. I won’t abandon it. I started posting very random posts, had no niche, and made lots of mistakes. After a while, I finally figured out my niche. I learned lots of things through trial and error, got more involved in the blogging community, and kept posting.
Things I learned:
I learned how to communicate through the internet, which was…rough at first. I’ve gotten better, and now it’s almost as natural as talking in person. I also learned what a tag was. (Please tell me there were other bloggers who didn’t know what a tag was at first!)
I learned that there’s more to blogging than just writing a post. There’s brainstorming, writing down ideas before you forget them, writing the post, editing, rewriting, more editing, formatting, there are so many steps! I learned that I need to persevere and challenge myself. There were lots of times during this whole venture that I lost motivation and kept asking myself Why? But I kept posting, and I’m super happy I didn’t abandon my blog.
And one last thing: I learned that YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST WRITE YOUR IDEAS DOWN!!!! I’ve had many instances, whether it be late at night, sitting at dinner, or while reading a book, where I came up with an idea for a blog post. Then I’d just say, I’ll write it down later. Plot twist: The human brain remembers many things, but never ever remembers the idea I told myself to write down. Now, thanks to the notes app on my phone, I have an abundance of ideas to use, so be prepared!
Thank you, dear readers and friends, for putting up with all of this. For the awkward posts about popcorn, trampolines, or guinea pigs. For the finally finding of a niche. For the even more awkward posts. For the long unplanned “breaks” Thank you so much for sticking with me through it!
And now, some announcements:
First of all, I’m going to be taking a break! (And here I was, just talking about “breaks”) This one’s scheduled, though, and I will be back as soon as I can. With the start of school, the end of summer trips, and a whole bunch of other things going on, I’m going on a short hiatus. In that time, though, I will still be working on my blog…
Some things are going to change!
I’m planning on changing the name of my blog (Look out for precarious bookstacks!) Along with a new design, and possible self hosting? Yep! There won’t be any more .wordpress.com! And some changes to the look? And even more, a possible newsletter? (watch out for scribbles on crinkled paper!)
I’m not totally sure how long this hiatus-of-productivity is going to take, but hopefully just a few weeks. As soon as school starts and traveling stops, I’ll get the blog redoing finished. I will be updating my progress on my Instagram account (@tinytownstoriesblog) so if you would like more updates, check that out.
Thank you so much for a truly pancake-flippin’ awesome year! Until next time!

Hi! I’m Hannah, a crazy pen-wielding, jack-of-all-trades writer. I write contemporary stories with a magical (or vintage!) twist, usually featuring big families, delicious food, and a few tear jerking scenes. When I’m not writing, you could find me camping, sewing, hiking, cycling, skiing, playing violin or piano, reading, and many other “-ing” words.
Congrats on blogging for a year!
Thank you so much! It’s been a fun year. 😀
Congrats, Hannah!! =D (I didn’t know what a tag was for a while either. XD) Looking forward to seeing the new site! Hope everything goes smoothly. Have a fantastic break. =)
Thank you so much!
