Essential Things I have at My Desk
Hello!
I like to write at my desk, but there are a few important things I keep on hand all the time.
A Clean Space
I figured out pretty quickly that having a clean desk is very helpful to being productive. Plus, this helps my desk from getting super cluttered.
Notebooks
I usually have at least one notebook filled with story outlines. I try to take this with me most everywhere I go so if I have extra time I can do some outlining or character development. When the notebook gets completely filled up, I put it in a drawer with other filled notebooks and then I get a new one.
Pens and Pencils
I outline and do character development by hand, so having pencils and pens on hand is very important. I like to use mechanical pencils because they don’t have to be sharpened all the time like normal pencils. I have a rather large collection of gel pens, which are fun to write with too.
Puzzles
I constantly have a puzzle laid out on the floor or on a table. When I need a break from writing, I like to work on a puzzle. It’s a great way to clear my head.
Music
Sometimes I like to listen to music while writing. I listen to instrumental music so the words don’t distract me from my writing. I really like listening to the How To Train Your Dragon soundtrack.
Other Places
I enjoy going to the local coffee shop or the library to write too. I’ve also been known to bring a notebook with me when I go camping. In the evenings I like to sit in a hammock and either read or scribble furiously in a notebook.
Until next time!

Hi! I’m Hannah, a crazy pen-wielding, jack-of-all-trades writer. I write contemporary stories with a magical (or vintage!) twist, usually featuring big families, delicious food, and a few tear jerking scenes. When I’m not writing, you could find me camping, sewing, hiking, cycling, skiing, playing violin or piano, reading, and many other “-ing” words.
These things are great!
For me, a clean space is sooo essential! I can’t work with a mess around me. XD
Ooh yeah, music! Music is super nice while writing!
