A Prayer Unanswered- Blog Tour + Review
Hey everyone! I have yet another book review for you.
Today, I’m excited to be a part of the blog tour for Kellyn Roth’s newest installation in the Chronicles of Alice and Ivy, A Prayer Unanswered.
About the book:
As Alice Strauss enters her first year of marriage—full of optimism and determination—she finds herself wholly unprepared for reality. In a new country, with a new family, she struggles to find her footing. Difficult relationships and situations batter her, but she is determined to establish a perfect life with the man she loves.
Unfortunately, perfection seems just beyond her reach. An unexpected tragedy flings Alice out of control, and she struggles to rise from the ruins. Her world is full of spinning variables and agony beyond anything she has ever experienced.
However, there is hope—in a God who loves her and a future established for her since before time began. Yet the devastation of Alice’s life seems beyond even the touch of grace.

Okay, so to start off, A Prayer Unanswered is VERY different from the previous books. In past books, Alice and Ivy dealt with tough concepts and themes, but A Prayer Unanswered has so many more really, really tough themes, but it was still hopeful.
I absolutely loved the ending. After staying in such a dark place for most of the story, the ending let grace and love shine through. I was so happy to see how Alice and Peter have grown and just… *cries happy tears*
I honestly didn’t like Peter in this book. He was so oblivious to what Alice was going through, almost to the point where I was like, “Okay, Peter, come on you know better than this!”
Though at the same time, he also seemed so much more realistic than in Becoming Miss Knight. In that book, he was charming and sweet, but almost a little too perfect. Here, we got to see Peter’s faults and struggles along with his devotion and love for God, his family, and Alice.
Speaking of the Strauss family, they were so much fun to meet. The Strauss’ mannerisms and lifestyle (including the Sunday morning scramble) felt like something taken directly from my family. It made me chuckle.
I was also really happy to see that certain details from Book 1 came back in this book. It was so satisfying after sitting with that information for so long.
I do feel like the beginning was a little slow. I expected Alice and Peter to already be married and living in America. But it was also nice to see them happy together *glances at the rest of the book*
I read this book in small chunks because it explored some really, really hard themes. Themes of marriage, mental illness, suicide, death, and grief. Those themes were dealt with really well, but it’s definitely a tougher book than the previous ones in the series.
But even with the tough themes, when I finished A Prayer Unanswered I felt hopeful. The book showed how in life, we will be faced with hardships that seem impossible to get through. It also showed how light can shine through the darkness, and how God’s love and grace can help us through those hardships.
Looking for a book that will take you on an emotional roller coaster? Ready to read something that is going to tear at your heartstrings? Want a story that will leave you really emotional (but also oddly happy and satisfied?) Look no further than A Prayer Unanswered.
Amazing work, Kell!

Hi! I’m Hannah, a crazy pen-wielding, jack-of-all-trades writer. I write contemporary stories with a magical (or vintage!) twist, usually featuring big families, delicious food, and a few tear jerking scenes. When I’m not writing, you could find me camping, sewing, hiking, cycling, skiing, playing violin or piano, reading, and many other “-ing” words.
