5 Ways to Flesh Out A Character
Hello!
Characters are important in a story. Characters need to mirror real life, and real life humans are complex. Creating a character that is complex and fully fleshed out is definitely a challenge, so today I’m bringing you 5 different ways to fully develop a character.
1. Questionnairesย
Character questionnaires are very helpful. There are a lot that you can find on the internet and they are relatively easy to make on yourself too.
2. Playlists
Another thing you can do is create a playlist for your character. The songs could be your character’s favorite songs, or just inspired by their personality.
3. Role playing
Playing a game with friends or siblings? Act as your character. It’s very fun to do, and will probably make you think a lot about your character.
4. Interviews
Have some friends or family interview your character. Whenever I do this, I end up finding out a lot about my character. It’s very helpful.
5. Incorporate them into real world situations
What would happen if all of your characters had to live together during quarantine? Or what if they all went on a road trip? Doing this can be super fun, especially if your character is from a different world/universe/time.
I hope these ideas for developing characters can help you with creating your own. Until next time!

Hi! Iโm Hannah, a crazy pen-wielding, jack-of-all-trades writer. I write contemporary stories with a magical (or vintage!) twist, usually featuring big families, delicious food, and a few tear jerking scenes. When Iโm not writing, you could find me camping, sewing, hiking, cycling, skiing, playing violin or piano, reading, and many other โ-ingโ words.
Yes, fleshing out characters is so important, and these are great ideas!
Thank you so much!
I do #5 all the time! ๐
