Popcorn!
Movie nights are great. Some might say the best part is the movie, but I think the best part is the popcorn. I’m not kidding. I. love. Popcorn.
There are different ways to make/get popcorn. I’ve broken it down into four categories. Pop-it-yourself, microwave, Pre-popped, and concessions. Pop-it yourself is the kind I eat the most. We always have a container of popcorn kernels waiting to be popped in our cupboard. Microwave popcorn is pretty obvious. You get the popcorn in a bag, not popped, and put it in the microwave. I like this popcorn for how fast and easy it is.
Pre-popped is the popcorn you buy in a bag. This popcorn is perfect for trips, and it has a lot of different flavors. Concessions popcorn is the popcorn you get at the movies, fairs, and most anywhere there’s a concession stand.
When my family makes popcorn, we use an “air popper.” This pops the kernels without adding butter or oil like other machines. We pop the popcorn into a giant paper bag and add the flavoring.
Plain
This is the most common flavoring made. It’s just butter and a little bit of salt. We melt the butter in a little dish, drizzle it on top of the popcorn in the paper bag, close the bag, and shake it. After it’s all shaken up, we add a little bit of salt, and shake it a little more.
Seasoning
After we’ve done the butter step, instead of adding salt, we sometimes add seasoning. You can make your own seasoning at home, but we use Kernel Season’s Popcorn Seasoning. There are many different flavors of seasoning, but my favorite is Ranch.
Sweet Popcorn
My mom will sometime make chocolate popcorn. She melts butter, drizzles it in, shakes the bag, and adds coco powder. This is very messy popcorn, but it’s very good.
We’ve also made pumpkin spice popcorn balls before. All I remember from that experience was super sticky popcorn sticking to everything in the kitchen.
I hope you try out some of these popcorn variations. I didn’t even mention my love for kettle corn!
See you soon!
