About the Book:
Ivy Knight feels that her life may never start. Though her loving family assures her that her place in the world is close to home, she still feels a push to move out of her comfort zone. Hoping against hope, she travels to her old friends at McCale House, seeking a purpose.
Jordy McAllen has just returned to Scotland after his education in London. He fears that what everyone has always said about him may be true: he can’t be a good doctor, let alone a good man. Determined to prove himself, Jordy snatches up the opportunity to become the doctor in the village of Keefmore near his parents’ farm.
When an old friend decides to travel to Keefmore and visit a relative, Ivy follows. She soon finds herself drawn to Jordy, but as their attraction grows, they both face doubts. A relationship between the two of them feels improbable—and might just require a step of impossible faith.

I ended my review of At Her Fingertips with “KELL WE NEED THE NEXT BOOK.” Well folks, the next book has finally arrived… and it is amazing. If I had to sum Beyond Her Calling up in one sentence, it would be this: Ivy, Jordy, and Violet (The Trio of Drama) have many adventures while galavanting around Scotland, including, but not limited to, baby kittens, gardening in bad weather, and nearly burnt down barns.
The book begins with Ivy stuck between childhood and adulthood, with no sure path forward. These feelings of in-between-ness hit me so hard, I related with Ivy on a very deep level. And when Ivy returned to Scotland, it almost felt nostalgic? It took me back to the times of Ivy Introspective when all of these characters were so little! Later events in the book proved to be very dramatic, some quite comedic and others that made me ponder tough themes. Needless to say, Beyond Her Calling has lots of emotions packed into it.
I loved seeing the new setting of Keefemore as well!
The ✨aesthetic✨of Keefemore
-Stone walls with moss growing in the cracks – cloudy skies- windy days – cozy cottages – cobblestoned streets – barn dances- fiddle music- sheep “bah-ing” – warm tea – leatherbound books-
The best part of Keefemore was all of the new characters! Violet’s Aunt Daphne was great, she reminded me so much of my own aunts (although none of them garden in bad weather) I really liked meeting Ena and Bridgit, too. Ivy and Ena’s exchange about Jane Austen books was pure GOLD.
I also enjoyed seeing old characters return. By the time the events in Beyond Her Calling take place, Ivy, Jordy, and Violet have all grown up and changed so much. I’ve also dubbed them the Trio of Drama because… you’ll have to read the book to find out…
It was so strange, but so great to see these three grown up. Ivy’s no longer the little girl she was in Ivy Introspective. Violet had changed so much too, especially when they arrived at Aunt Daphne’s house. It just added to the “growing up” emotions.
Now onto the topic of Jordy… This mischievous, scattered, but very caring boy was my favorite character in Ivy Introspective. In Beyond Her Calling, he has returned, and instead of almost burning down a barn, he’s going to be a doctor in Keefemore.
The combination of grown up Ivy, Jordy, and Violet was so hilarious and dramatic, especially towards the climax. These three made me laugh, smile, almost rip out my hair, cry, and chuckle all on multiple occasions (like I said, dramatic)
Towards the beginning, I was quite confused about how the actual logistics of traveling worked. One minute, Ivy was going to the McCale House, and then the next, she was going to Aunt Daphne’s house, and then the Dramatic Trio were traveling to Keefemore? As I kept reading, this made more sense, but for a bit I was just bumbling along in a carriage behind Ivy, Violet, and Jordy.
Beyond Her Calling also made me think long and hard about grace and forgiveness. I really liked the way these themes were tackled, and I definitely want to do some rereading to dive into them even more!
This book had such an amazing and satisfying ending too! After some broken bones, kittens, and lots of drama, Beyond Her Calling wrapped up with one of the most satisfying endings ever.
I feel like it’s fitting to end my review with this:
KELL WE REALLY NEED THE NEXT BOOK.
But before you go, make sure to check out the rest of the tour and THREE amazing giveaways that are happening! Kellyn’s kickoff post here has all the details you need.

Hi! I’m Hannah, a crazy pen-wielding, jack-of-all-trades writer. I write contemporary stories with a magical (or vintage!) twist, usually featuring big families, delicious food, and a few tear jerking scenes. When I’m not writing, you could find me camping, sewing, hiking, cycling, skiing, playing violin or piano, reading, and many other “-ing” words.
“The Trio of Drama.”
That is perfect, hahaha! Great review. 🙂
Thank you! They are so dramatic! 😂
I’ve never read any of Kellyn’s work, but every time I hear anything about these books I want to read them more and more. XD
You definitely need to! They are so great.
This review was so sweet of you! Trio of Drama is my new favorite descriptions!
Well, thank YOU for writing these books! I’ve had so much fun reading them.
I’m so happy to be participating in this scavenger hunt! Thanks for the opportunity.❤️
Who knew scavenger hunts could be so much fun? 😄
This sounds like a great book
Love it!!
Aww these reviews are making me want to read this book! Scotland!!! 😍
Ivy is definitely my favorite character in the whole series. She’s so creepily like me. “People scared her, so she avoided society.” Literally me. 😂
Anyway, great review! I completely agree. Loved this story so so much!
I haven’t read this yet, but it sounds like an amazing book! Also, such a fun idea!
Can’t wait to read this! Fun idea for a giveaway too!
I love endings that come with a tear in your eye because what seemed impossible was not impossible with God. Those are my favorites.
Great review!
I love the cover, it is very pretty
